TV gets with the times as analogue goes digital

It's about time we revamped the television network. The mobile broadband networks have been getting all the attention recently – when will we switch to 4G? Next month? Next year? Who cares? In this day and age it's ridiculous that some of us are still getting by on analogue TV when digital goes so much further.

Marvel at the best in British style and design

Digital TV UK

Digital TV is the broadcast of both video and audio via discrete (also known as digital) signals, and is currently replacing the older alternative that is analogue. This switchover has been occurring gradually over the past few years throughout many households in the world’s developed nations. The date which your home will switch to digital television will depend on where abouts you live in the UK. This process is happening TV region by TV region.

Digital TV provides a much larger choice of channels and a better reception. By the end of 2012, the old analogue signal will be switched off and the whole country will run on the digital signal.

Digital TV Providers

There are various Digital TV Providers to choose from, including Virgin Media, Sky (including Sky Player), BT Vision, TalkTalk, Topup TV, Freeview, Freesat and ESPN. Here we will provide you with more information about each of these.

HD & 3D technology

HD technology stands for High Definition and refers to an increase in visual resolution in a variety of different gadgets and appliances, such as HD televisions and Blu-ray disc players. It makes the viewing experience much better because of the high quality of video images being displayed.

3D technology has recently become more popular in many cinemas across the UK, where 3D versions of films are currently being shown as an alternative to the standard 2D form. People are given 3D glasses with modern red and cyan coloured filters to wear in order to have an enhanced viewing experience of the film they are watching. It makes it more realistic, as certain aspects of the video can jump out at you.

Popular and Premium Channels

Popular Channels refer to the mainstream television channels, which are available on all standard television sets that don’t have any additional packages added on. These are BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, Channel 4 and Five.

Premium Channels can also be known as Pay Television or Premium Television, and are subscription based television services with a variety of different prices and packages available to choose from, depending on your budget and viewing preferences. People often choose this so that they can have a wider variety of programmes to watch, or if they are interested in receiving more options for a specific type of show such as sports, music or films, for example.
