Sky Digital TV
Sky is a satellite TV provider, which also offers landline and broadband connections as part of a bundle. It is a favourite with almost 10 million UK homes, as it has the largest choice of channels available from any provider and the most HD programmes available to choose from as well.
Different levels of hardware and package subscriptions are provided, although all customers will need to have a satellite dish installed so that it is compatible with Sky.
The standard package is Sky TV but the +HD comes with a digital TV recorder that has its own built in hard drive memory system, so that you can pause, record and rewind live television. There are HD channels available, in case you want to watch shows with a sharper definition. Various types of bundles and deals can be chosen if you prefer to have your TV, home phone and Internet all connected via the same provider to save on money and time.
The channels are grouped within ‘packs’ so you can opt for various types of programmes, which will reflect the overall cost depending on the one that you choose to subscribe to. Packs start at just £20 a month, with Premium sports and movies packs available for additional costs.
It helps you to select suitable channels for you, depending on your preferences and needs, meaning you don’t have to pay for hundreds of channels you will never even watch. This makes it better value for money and you’re not overloaded by too many extra programmes. You will always be able to find something you can watch. The available packs are Sky Entertainment and Sky Entertainment Extra.
One of the major advantages is that 98% of the country are able to receive Sky, because it uses satellite technology, so it is ideal for those living in rural areas who cannot receive a Freeview service. When you sign up, an engineer will simply come round to your house to install your Sky dish and help connect your TV to your Sky + HD box. Listed buildings require planning permission before this can be installed however, so if this applies to you please check before you register.
Remember that you will need a HD ready television if you opt for a HD service, otherwise you can choose to have the box installed instead.
